Feedly: This extension/web app is a much better interface for Google Reader. It allows for two click subscriptions, much more refined categories, and a less cluttered, less stressful interaction with your many feeds. I currently have over 500 feeds I’m subscribed to with many different categories and this makes me not absolutely hate dealing with my feeds.
Wufoo: If you are a long time reader you’ve seen this on my blog before. I use this for every single one of my forms. I honestly CANNOT stand using Google Docs for forms, they are amazing in other fields but forms is not their forte. They allow beautiful seamless integration directly into your blog posts and are easily modifiable.
SimplyLinked: Again there are alternatives, but the beauty and simplicity of SimplyLinked is unmatched. I haven’t seen other bloggers use this, but I adore it.
Evernote Web: I primarily use the desktop app for Evernote. It is my place where I plan, organize, and otherwise get ready for any blog events.
StatCounter or Pmetrics: I currently use StatCounter, but I’m thinking about switching to Pmetrics. You need a analytics service that goes deeper than Google Analytics so you can know exactly what search results, pages, links are driving traffic to your blog.
ETA: I'm having issues with Pmetrics, but it has pretty in depth stats. I'm gonna stick with StatCounter for the time being.

I've only ever heard of Statcounter, it's great seeing these other sites. I'm going to give Pmetrtics a try and Evernote
ReplyDelete- Jess
I just signed up for StatCounter, and I'm going to try Pmetrics out. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this post. The only app you've listed that I've tried is Evernote. I used to use it a lot but it's been a while. I've never tried using it for planning my blog posts or blog events. Now I'm curious and will have to experiment. I'd love if you could share an example since I've been out of the Evernote world for a while. I'm bookmarking this to come back to. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for tips. I used Google Reader but everyday I looked there was over 1000+ posts and it was creepy. Also signup for Evernote, sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post! I have been using Google Reader for ever and this weekend is suddenly stopped playing nice with Chrome, and they seem to have fixed the issue, but I'm excited to try feedly instead, it's so pretty :D And I have a lot of blogs to read!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this!! I signed up for PMetrics and Simply Linked. I am going to look into Evernote some more. I am not sure I fully comprehend what it is for yet. I think I will like it though. Thank you for sharing things to make my life easier, you are awesome!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely bookmarking this post. :) Thanks for your always helpful tips, Rie!!
ReplyDeleteEvernote is a lifesaver! Gotta love a place where you can drop all your random thoughts and close and never have to save and it's completely backed up on the website!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I can give a precise example, but mainly I use it for putting down all my thoughts. Making lists of authors and managing all those little bits of info I need for events or guest posts.
ReplyDeleteYeah, on a daily basis I have WAY over 1000 posts and it just stresses me out, but now that I've broken them down into categories and really have a way to manage them they don't.
ReplyDeleteIsn't feedly beautiful! They often make changes to the design and seem to be consistently making it better! I find it so odd that the main problems I have with Chrome are from Google products you would think they would at least manage to make their own products compatible. Glad they fixed it!
ReplyDeleteEvernote is basically a place where you can jot down anything and everything and keep your ideas organized. Also it backs up everything to it's online system and you never have to save, so you'll never lose any work you put there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jess! Glad it could help!
ReplyDeleteExcellent tips and much appreciated..i was looking for a better way to read feeds
ReplyDeleteI could not push Evernote enough!! I love it; for almost every aspect of my life! I use it for blogging, for classes, for my husbands schedule... LOL! It's so nice to have everything available everywhere. My iPad, my Phone, my computer. It's just great.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Statcounter was better than Google Analytics. that's good to know. I always learn so much from you. I hear so many rumors but you always seem to know the truth. Okay now that I've embarrassed myself with gushing...
ReplyDeleteBetter as in more detailed, but Google Analytics is a good starting point and a great reference for spouting stats to publishers, but if you want more information for yourself Statcounter and the like are better.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have so many notebooks! It's sorta my private pinterest.
ReplyDeletePMetrics is an awesome program - I use it for a different blog that I operate. Also note that it's free for only 1 blog.
ReplyDeletethnx for you
