I’m Rie, you can find out more about me over on my “About” page, but I’m a graduate student majoring in history. The end goal is to become a professor, but I would really love to do some research work along the way. I’m taking the summer off from uni, but I’m loving my internship.I’ve been married for a little over 2 years, to one of the best men I’ve ever known although he is completely non-bookie. I'm also completely in love with my furbaby Chloe.
My primary passion (other than books of course) is technology! I’m obsessed with graphic design, various gadgetry, and wasting vast amounts of time on social media mainly twitter (@missiontoread).
I began Mission to Read on Dec. 24th, 2010, mainly in response to my need to converse about books after moving 5 hours away from my family. From a very early age me and my sister were taught a love of reading from my Mom and many hours were spent fighting, stealing, and conversing about books and I missed that a ton when I moved to TX.
What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
I’m currently reading Spider’s Bite by Jennifer Estep and I have to say it’s probably one of the best books I’ve read recently, but debut authors have been impressive this year. Hemlock by Kathleen Hemlock and Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins are two of the best books I’ve read this year.
What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?
My favorite feature would have to be Great Designs, where the spotlight is on bloggers that have taken the initiative to learn more about graphic design in order to make their own blogs better.
What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?
I love the book blogging community and it’s one of the main reasons I continue blogging when the blog becomes overwhelming. I adore the fact that I can jump on twitter and talk to my blogging buddies about anything whether it be obsessing over authors or really anything.
The one thing I would love to see changed is the drama. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, but over all this community is one of my favorites!
Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
I used to read more historical fiction, but one thing that has changed more recently is that when I take a blogging hiatus I read very eclectically. I really never read non-fiction, but I’m starting to enjoy hard-hitting journalism type books.
I'm a wife, student, and a dog-lover who reads when I should be folding laundry (bane of my existance), I write (rarely as academic papers consume my life), and love getting wrapped up in fiction.

Hi, I'm posting your first comment to this intro. I lived in Ft. Worth TX for 3 years and loved it. I missed the seasons though as I am a Virginian.
ReplyDeleteAs a big historical fiction fan I hope you don't stop reading it all together, but it is also great to expand your horizons too!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy Armchair BEA this week!
Hi! Nice to meet you! A History Professor, that's pretty cool! Enjoy Armchair BEA!
ReplyDeleteHi Rie! I would LOVE to go back to school and take history classes just for fun. My masters was in urban planning, which was also really interesting. But, I love history!
ReplyDeleteYour dog is beautiful :D
I simultaneously love and hate Twitter - love for all the reasons you mentioned, and hate because it is like a black hole for my time. I start playing and all of a sudden realize I've lost an hour of my life!
ReplyDeletePleased to meet you, and thanks for stopping by my Armchair BEA Intro Post.
The drama IS sometimes overwhelming. I'd be glad if there was never any melodrama. Oy.
ReplyDeleteChloe is too cute, Rie!
My introductory post: here.
Happy Armchair BEA to you. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah I love Twitter for the same reason and definitely agree about the drama that seems to happen more and more.
Your dog is adorable, great pic.
I also grew up in a house full of books and being surrounded by bookaholics. It's a great feeling to have always someone close who loves talking about books.
ReplyDeleteYour Great Designs posts sound great, I need to check them out.
Have a great week.
Heard nothing but good things about Hemlock, I recently read Sweet Evil too and I really love it. Kaidan Rowe that bastard of neph lol sorry for the word. I love that you feature bloggers who takes time to design their blogs. Designing a blog seems hard for me since I'm not really in the creative part. But I do hope to learn more about designing.
ReplyDeleteMy Introduction post here-JayWe Fancy Books
Nice to meet you Rie! I plan on studying History in college too! Yeah, the drama can be ridiculous but I tend to stay out of it anyways!
ReplyDelete~Kailia
Non-Fiction is one of my guilty pleasures! I really well written one can sometimes be stranger than fiction!
ReplyDelete*gah* I am behind 2 books in J.E's series and I need to catch up. It is on my probably June Audiobook month plan. Hopefully I can get to them :::crossing fingers::::
I am married to a non-reader as well. It's rather interesting how opposites attract.
ReplyDeleteThe Flashlight Reader
Chloe is adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is not a reader at all too. LOL He could care less but doesn't mind too much if I read a lot. :)
My intro!
ooh Great Design seems like a fantastic feature! I always love looking at other people's blog design and DIY sounds interesting. I'm going to try to read Hemlock soon. It's very nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteYour furbaby is absolutely adorable! What kind of dog is she?
ReplyDeleteI agree about the drama. It would be nice if there was less of it. But, I do like the camaraderie in the community and I guess you'll get the good and the bad with any group of people.
I love the design of your blog -- it's so cute! I'm going to have to check out your Great Designs feature; I'm completely graphic design illiterate, but I'd like to change that.
ReplyDeleteI adored HEMLOCK, definitely one of my favourites this year. It must have been hard to move so far away from your family, hopefully you still fight and steal each other's books when you get together (I know I do, and I live about 30 minutes away). And I agree about the book blogging community being great but the drama does get to be too much at times.
ReplyDeleteGreat Designs sounds like an awesome feature! I'm going to check it out because I've started really getting into the technical aspect of blogging and designing and stuff, so I'm always looking for inspiration and ways to improve. Also, I notice many of your reviews are 5 stars. How do you manage to consistently read so many great books? Do you have a system of sorting out books in order to decide what to read next?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog! :]
ReplyDeleteGreat Designs sounds like an awesome feature!
It's so great to meet you!!Hope you have a great Armchair BEA week! Here's my post: http://little-red-reads.blogspot.com/2012/06/armchair-bea-introductions.htmlxo Stephanie
Oh, Hemlock was a pleasant surprise for me! I loved it. And I cannot wait to read Sweet Evil! It sounds so fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Hi Rie! Thanks for stopping by mine!
ReplyDeleteI'm wanting to read Hemlock so bad! Between my friends and other bloggers...ek! It sounds so good. I loved Sweet Evil.
How much do I love your header - so stinkin' cute! Chloe looks awfully sweet. Good luck on becoming a Professor - that would be a wonderful job :D
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful "meeting" you :) Armchair BEA @ the Brunette Librarian
I loved Sweet Evil as well. Fresh twist on angels & demons!
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating!

I really love your Great Designs feature too!! I am a bit jealous of those with the design knowledge and talent because I don't really have it!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are loving Spiders Bite! I am such a fan of Jennifer Estep and that series is one of my favorites!!
Welcome to Armchair BEA12 it was delightful reading your post. Your blendig your second lovve of graphics with a feature on your blog is very smart. Sadly I do not have the time or inclination to devote to graphics but I am someone that appreciates the effort.
ReplyDeleteI really need graphic design help. I just don't have the extra time to invest in it right now. Some day!
ReplyDeleteI adore parts of Ft. Worth, but I'm a country girl at heart. Luckily, I have always lived in places that seem to have endless summer so the weather doesn't really bother me.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, I'll never completely stop reading historical fiction. It combines two of my loves history and reading, so they shall always remain!
ReplyDeleteUrban planning sounds like an interesting field! I started out as a psychology major, but I just loved my history classes so I did both in my undergrad classes.
ReplyDeleteTwitter certainly can be a time suck, but sometimes it's utterly needed. We can't always be productive!
ReplyDeleteA dramatic reduction of the drama would be wonderful, but I don't see that happening, but oh well most days it's an amazing group!
ReplyDeleteBoth are amazing! Kaidan is so smexy. I didn't really get that word until I read Sweet Evil!
ReplyDeleteI always stayed far away from Non-fiction before I began book blogging, but for some reason it can just be a bit more interesting at times.
ReplyDeleteI just added all of the Elemental Assassin's series that the library had, so I'm hoping to catch up.
She's a mutt. A mix between some kind of retriever and pointer.
ReplyDeleteIt can be a struggle to learn, but I'm so happy I did!
ReplyDeleteYeah, when the sis comes to visit a majority of my bookcase disappears into her suitcase. But I love her anyway!
ReplyDeleteI never really noticed that, but yeah, probably it's because I'm apt to put a book down if it starts to annoy me. I don't have the patience for books that I don't enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou should get on Sweet Evil! It's so good!
ReplyDeleteHemlock is SO amazing! I hope you'll be able to get your hands on it soon!
ReplyDeleteShe's awfully mischievous, but sweet. Thanks, I've been annoyed with my header lately.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I finally started it! It's so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like my Great Designs feature. Thanks for stopping by today!
I couldn't agree more with you about the drama! ): It sucks and I hate when it pops up again. Also, I also used to read more historical fiction! :D (As well as more adult literature, but YA is just so much more fun to read lately!)
ReplyDeleteSo I'm kinda in love with both your gorgeous dog and your Great Designs feature. I'm off to check out more Great Designs posts. :)
