As readers we are often writers as well. I began this blog after marrying and moving to another state from the entirety of my family. In this transition I stopped writing. I kept making excuses, “I’m too busy in school.”, “I need to give more attention to the hubs.”, “I don’t have the time.”, etc.  The real reason I gave up writing was because quite honestly I was too damaged to force characters through any kind of turmoil and how fun is a book without any source of drama.

Well, I’m finally wanting to write again. I finally can put my characters through massive amounts of heartache without drowning myself. I have the summer off other than my internship and what is a better way to fill than with characters that I’ve been carrying around for the past two years that are getting a bit impatient to be written about.

So I’m participating in Camp Nanowrimo.

What is Camp Nanowrimo?

Camp Nanowrimo is a branch off Nanowrimo, a popular writing challenge where the goal is 50,000 words in a month. No editing, no backspacing just simple go with the flow writing. Camp Nanowrimo is the same, except it will be going in June and August. I love that they are now starting one in the summer so those of us in uni that are swamped in November can participate.

How can you participate?

Just sign up and write. I always cheat. Whether it be a novel I have already started or aiming for a different goal I never follow the guidelines exactly and that makes it so much better for me.

There are also donations being collected by one of my good writerly friends, Inky. There is no obligation to donate, but I thought I’d mention it as this organization is one of my favorites.

What are my goals?

My goal is to write 1,000 words 5 days a week for the entirety of the summer. No editing the same chapter a million times. I’ll be using Write or Die to try to focus myself on wordcount alone.

Are you joining? Have you participated in Nanowrimo before? Do you follow the guidelines or cheat a bit?

I'm participating! I've been doing Nano for quite a few years now, and I follow the rules, I guess. Meaning, I aim for the 50,000 word count and I always start a new novel, though I don't always finish...

  4. I've taken part 3 times now. I love NaNo, but I do stick to the rules. Means I always make the 50,000 words but I don't always finish the book, in fact I have 2 half written novels. Maybe this time I will complete.
    Good luck. :D
