TGIF is  a Friday meme hosted by Ginger at Greads. She always has the best questions.

Today’s Question:

Buy or Borrow: Where do your books that you read come from? The bookstore? The library? Do you prefer to own a book, or have it on loan?

Answer:

I am so not a hoarder of anything including books. The books I keep are only those that I will read a million times, so it is MUCH cheaper for me to borrow books from the library or a friend than buy a copy for myself and then just send it on to my sister or take it to Half Priced Bookstore. It actually bugs me to have books sitting on my bookshelf that I don’t plan to read again, so I’m planning on having a series of ARC giveaways during the next year.

I only have about 20 books that I will love and keep at all times. I’ve had to buy several copies of quite a few of these as the cover has come off, I’ve moved and lost it, or some other misfortune.

Some Books I keep on hand:

Castles by Julie Garwood
The Secret by Julie Garwood
Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

I'm a wife, student, and a dog-lover who reads when I should be folding laundry (bane of my existance), I write (rarely as academic papers consume my life), and love getting wrapped up in fiction.

  1. I borrow from the library mostly, and like you said, keep on hand books that I love.

  2. THE SECRET. Okay, I have to pause here and take a breath and try not to bounce up and down too excitedly since I'm still at work... But I LOVE that book. I've read it so many times and I still love it each and every time!

I'm working on being less of a book hoarder, and more of a book borrower. I'd like to (hopefully) make use of my library a little more, as well as working my way through my TBR pile, which is CRAZY right now.

  3. Only 20 books? That's amazing. I guess I'm a hoarder, as I have so much more books. But at least they are mainly digital.
It seems as if American libraries are stocked far better than European ones. I can't even get the books I want from the local library.

    Happy Friday! My TGIF
    & FF post

  5. I try not to hoard books too much, but I do love pretty covers and tend to buy books that are pretty. I mostly buy books for my nook, so they don't take up any space. I have certain books, like The Mortal Instrument series, Harry Potter, and others that I have to have in physical form though.

  6. I'm so much of a physical book snob. If I want to keep a copy on hand it HAS to be a physical copy. E-books for those books I'm gonna read once and most of the time I use the library to get them. Even though I'm a techie I'm so not an e-book girl.

  7. I have like a bajillion TBR books, but my I MUST ALWAYS HAVE A COPY or I will die books I only have like 20. They occupy the bottom shelf of my bookcase. I don't usually keep more than one copy of a book unless I'm planning on giving one of them away.

  8. I have an amazing library. I can get e-books and audiobooks online at any time and then they have all the newest books I can get a physical copy of and if they don't have something we can always request an InterLibrary loan. Love the library.

  9. Yay! Glad to find another The Secret fan! I've been reading that book since I was in middle school and have gone through like 3 copies. Worn down so much that they lose their cover. LOVE IT!

I need to start hoarding more as I am trying to fill up a new bookcase!
