Great Designs: Ginger from G-reads

G-reads

What resources have you used in your design? Is there any websites you'd recommend for resources?


I use a free and easy program called picnik.com for all my designing.  I like it because the format is set up great for manipulating graphics and adding your own touch.  I have some background with Paint Shop Pro (a graphic/photo designer) so that does help.  With all my computer needs, it's all about trial and error for me.  I get in there, play around with it, and learn what works for me.

What do you like most about your design?


I like that my blog design is neutral and easy on the eye.  I tend to incorporate colors with my individual blog posts, so I don't want to over crowd the place with lots of color.  People have told me that my blog looks a lot like my home.  I guess I tend to decorate the same? haha  The chandelier is an elegant touch that balances out my crazy posts.  (and yes I do have a chandelier over my kitchen table hehe)

What has been the biggest difficulty in getting your design to be how you want it?


In the beginning I was known for constantly changing my blog lay out/background.  It became a joke after awhile because each time people went to view it, I had changed it.  I'm not always good with decisions.  My mood changes constantly and how I wanted my blog to reflect that changed as well.  I think coming to an agreement with myself on what I wanted as my "look" has been the biggest challenge.

Have you enjoyed learning about design?


I actually have.  Creating my own blog and graphics for my posts has been so much fun.  At first I didn't realize just how much I enjoy doing it.  I love it when people come to me asking to design a button or graphic for their blog.  It really is a wonderful compliment to receive.  Designing this stuff isn't hard for me.  When I have a vision of what I want something to look like, I just go with it.  Nine times out of ten I end up liking it.
