Character Interview: Touch of Frost: Logan

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.

But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why—especially since I should have been the one who died. .

Greetings and salutations! First of all, I want to thank Rie for having me on the blog today. Thanks so much, Rie!

So today, Rie asked me for the inside scoop on Logan Quinn, the Spartan bad boy who is as cute as he is deadly in Touch of Frost, the first book in my Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series. So here’s a little more about Logan, in his own words:

Why did you help pick up Gwen's stuff after the collision? Chivalry or did you find Gwen attractive?

Logan: A little bit of both. Helping her pick up her stuff was just the right thing to do, even if she did run into me on the quad. As for Gypsy girl, she’s cute with her freckles and those big violet eyes. And I am always interested in talking to a cute girl.

Do you like to maintain the bad boy rep? Or is it something you are simply stuck with?
Logan: I gotta say that I don’t mind being known as a bad boy. I am a Spartan after all. We’re pretty fierce warriors, so the bad boy rep fits in nicely with that.

In the beginning of your attraction to Gwen was it simply the thrill of the chase or something deeper?

Logan: I’ll admit that most girls like me right from the start, so I was curious as to why Gypsy girl didn’t. It made me want to know more about her, and now that I do, well, let’s just say that I want to know even more.

You have impressive fighting skills. Who would you say trained you the most?

Logan: Coach Ajax at the academy has really helped me hone my fighting skills since I’ve been going to Mythos. Coach Ajax is one of the best fighters that I’ve ever seen, and I want to be just as tough and deadly as he is someday.

When was the first moment you knew you truly liked Gwen?

Logan: When she threatened to have her grandma curse me. You gotta love a girl with attitude.

Character Interview: Beautifully Broken: Ari

Hi Everyone! I thought it might be entertaining if I did an interview with one of the the main characters from my recent release, Beautifully Broken. I decided to interview the snarky and out-going, Ariana Parsons.

If you’ve already read the novel, this interview should be amusing and insightful. If you haven’t read the novel yet, hopefully the character interview will pique your interest.

 Oh…uh, just my aunt Amanda and I. Not sure where my parents are…

What were three things you liked to do when you were younger? 

I had this shoplifting habit in junior high, but after I got caught and grounded, I stopped. It was just to get attention. It was really stupid and I wish I hadn’t done it now. And not just because I got caught!

What makes you happy?

 Hanging out with my friends, getting pedis, shopping and watching The Vampire Diaries. I heart Stefan!

What is your greatest fear? 

That the evil skulking around Whispering Pines will kill all of my friends. Or worse—get me too!

What would you change about yourself if you could? 

Nothing! I’m perfect. Well, I guess, my nose. It’s sorta crooked. Um…is that what you meant?

What is it that you have never told anyone? 

The dark truth about my family and what really happened to my older sister. (the curse got her!)

What's the worst thing you've ever done? Why? 

Sheesh! Haven’t we already gone over this? I was a shoplifter—duh. And not a very good one.

If you could be an animal, what would it be? 

Easy. A lioness. They are badass!

What was it like being raised with your mother absent?

It was really hard.  She’d been such a big part of my life and then she was just gone—no explanation, no excuses.  Watching my dad fall apart was just as difficult and trying to take care of my little brothers when I didn’t really know what was going on.  I think of everything, I’ve always wanted to know why.  Why she left, why she never came back.  Then again, when I get the answer, I’m not sure it’s enough.  It should be, but she left a lot of pain behind and I don’t know that anything will make up for that.

Being a mermaid the water obviously feels like home, but why was surfing your favorite way of interacting with it?

I love the rush of surfing.  There’s nothing like when everything comes together and you get the perfect wave and the perfect ride (Tracy spent years surfing and still misses it a lot now that she’s landlocked in Texas).  I can’t imagine ever being away from the water, and sometimes I sneak ashore just to surf (though Kona and the Queen don’t know that).

Did it scare you when you began being drawn to the water?

No.  I was never frightened of the water, even when I should have been.  I resented it, was furious that my mother chose the ocean instead of us, but I was never afraid of it.  It would be like being afraid of myself.  It’s that big a part of me.

Though, I have to admit, like Tracy I’m afraid of sharks and would much prefer it if they gave me a wide berth.

What about Kona attracted you the most?

The way he moves on the water, in the water.  He’s so much a part of the ocean that I can see it, feel it, every time I’m around him.  And his smoking body didn’t hurt either, lol.

What is your favorite part of life on land and in the water?

My favorite part of being on land is being around the people I love—my family, Mark, Logan, Bach and the others.  I miss them so, so much when I’m in the water.



My favorite part of the water is the way it makes me feel to be surrounded by it—so powerful and strong.  Like I can do anything.  Plus, the underwater world is so amazing and beautiful that I’m awestruck every time I look around.  Being around Kona is also a big draw …

Tracy Deebs lives with four men, teaches writing to local college students and spends as much time as she can manage immersed in worlds of her own creation. Antara: Character Interview: Orestis

How do you feel about becoming the king?


Orestis: I feel that I will carry on my father's incomplete work which left to me when he died. I will avenge the merfolk for the death of my mother and my people. I want them to feel that there is an avenger who won't leave them unpunished. My reign is devoted to this one and only purpose: to eradicate the "fish" from Aster for ever.


How do you feel about your reputation given to by the merfolk of being an evil heartless human?


Orestis: I feel indifference about what they call me or what they believe.


Why do you put so much trust into your advisors?


Orestis: My counselors and I have a common belief, our hatred for the fish; and a common goal; to wipe them out from Aster. That goal makes us one strong fist; I totally trust their opinion. Our lust for revenge has united us.


How did Urania play a part in your life?


Orestis: If there's a small part deep in my heart that is peaceful, that's because of Urania, and even if we argue about many issues, it's the only person I have deep feelings about. She's the only human that was tightly connected to my mother. So, when Urania is next to me, I feel like a part of my mother close to me as well. It's a taste of the maternal love I never experienced.


Can you tell us a little about the forest of hope?


Orestis: The forest of hope; I barely remember when I was visiting it with my parents when I was still a child. It was like entering into a paradise that I never wanted to leave. My father was telling me stories and legends for every nook and cranny of this forest; I can still recall some of them. I don't remember much from my childhood, but this particular forest has been imprinted in my mind for ever. I have sworn since the nightmare appeared that I won't step my foot on that place, unless I find true peace in my soul again.

I would like to welcome Sasha from the Queen of Bridgeton. 

What event or series of events led you to start mothering Sonya?

I think big sisters always take care of little sisters to some degree. It’s like we’re programmed that way. But I really started looking out for Sonya when we moved to Venton Heights. The kids there were a lot…tougher than Sonya was used to. I knew I had to protect her.

There are likely a multitude of private schools with stellar recommendations. What made Bridgeton the school of your choosing?

I know people aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that’s exactly what I did with Bridgeton. I saw a brochure of the campus and it was absolutely beautiful. I mean, perfectly manicured lawns, gorgeous ivy on the walls and columns, marble flooring in the picturesque dining hall. Besides being a top notch school, I felt rich just walking on its campus. I knew it was the place I wanted to be.

How do you handle people like LaPorshe?

Not with violence. That’s the mistake most people make when dealing with bullies. It’s very hard to get the upper hand with someone physically. Even when you do, it’s ridiculously easy to lose that advantage during your next encounter. What if they come back with a weapon? No, the best way to deal with bullies is blackmail. Plain and simple. I know secrets about everyone and I use them when I need to. For example, with LaPorscha I know who the real father of her baby is. She will do anything to keep me from telling Tyrell.

Do you regret any of the decisions you made while attending Bridgeton?

My only regret…getting caught.

Do you feel as though you've made any friends during your time at Bridgeton?

If by friends you mean people who wouldn’t stab me in the back at the first beneficial opportunity…then no.
