This Week’s Question:
In light of 11.11.11 and Veteran’s Day tell us about your favorite solider and how he or she is saving the world. Fictional or real life.
Rie’s Answer:
I’ve always lived in air force towns, so I have known many people that served but I don’t have a strong connection to the armed services. Our Pabkins’ served for over 5 years herself.
Thank you to all those who have kept our country safe.
Pabkins’ Answer:
Normally, I would say my sister Rinni – but she got out over a year ago. Now, it is definitely my brother in law Tom – her husband. He is in Afghanistan right now, for a deployment that he even volunteered for – (he’s had several tours). He is the strongest, most caring soldier and leader any soldier could hope to serve with. He works 10 times as hard as any other NCO I’ve ever known and gives no less than he asks for from his soldiers. I am so proud my sister met and married such a man as him. Not only does he really care a lot about the work he is doing there to help people, but he takes good care of his soldiers and most importantly my sister and nephews. There are many times when I think that I wish they could just send our soldiers home – but Tom always makes me realize that they really are helping a lot by being there. Knowing he’s going to be a Sergeant Major soon is such an awesome thought. HOOOOAH! – Also, to every other soldier out there – my heart goes out to you – Stay strong!

This Week’s Question:
Love-Hate Relationship: Which characters from a book do you love to hate?
Rie’s Answer:
Pabkins’ Answer:
After book 6 it just all started to be TOO much! Too much drama, too much sex, too much relationship and dominance nonesense and not enough real story. I stopped reading a few books ago - I was fed up. I realized I better read books I think I'm going to like rather than ones I know I probably won't.
Essentially, we are two sides of the same coin. We both love to read but have tastes that range to such opposite ends of the Fiction spectrum! Rie our blonde haired smoothie perhaps is the light and lovey side of us, Pabkins the chocolate haired one brings us the darker delights.

Wonderfully stated! It's wonderful that your family is in the military - we thank them for their service. Very brave people :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Veteran's day!!http://brunettelibrarian.blogspot.com/
Great answer. I think people don't realize how hard it is to be in the military and I know that we should all be thankful for their service. Great answer.

ReplyDeletethanks thats my bro - in law kneeling down. I've seen a bunch of these photos from the orphanage - the lil guy in pink always makes me laugh he is always trying to puff himself up in every shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah - being in the military is being a part of an entirely different culture.
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely a big pack of service members.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo, new follower.
ReplyDeletePabkins with a darker side----phaw. Thank you for the sweet words little sister. It means an awful lot, particularly now that I am allllllll the way over here and missing my family. But as you rightly stated, this is important work and that Rinni understands it and can be proud of our combined effort is enough to continue and endure. I should also point out to your faithful followers that you too are a veteran of our Army so thank you for your service and for thinking of all of us on this Veterans Day. Love you very much and will see you all soon.

I'm really thankful for all the people who serve now and who have ever served. I have many family members, and family friends who have served and are actively serving and it's such a blessing there are people willing to be that selfless.
ReplyDeleteI am such a dork - I haven't ever read The Vampire Diaries books or seen the show. :X I guess I'm scared to watch the show before ever reading the books because I don't want it to ruin any impressions I might have of the book, or instill preconceived notions of the characters? I'm not really sure.. maybe it's more like I feel like a cheater if I watch the movie or TV show before reading the book(s) lol
I haven't ever read the Anita Blake series either - but my friend Bex has and she's told me about the books and how a lot of people don't like the newer ones. I'd be really disappointed in a series I really loved in the beginning continuing on without me, because I hated them. I think sometimes series last too long too, and then story lines and plots get so overused.
Wow.. talk about long comment here LOL 0_0
Happy Veteran's Day and 11.11.11 :D
April @ My Shelf Confessions
*ROFL - they are going to know you are a big softie and think they can get over on you!
ReplyDeleteYes he's my big bro hero!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that neat? He has some other awesome photos he's taken of schools in Kabul and the kids that they've been helping out - this was one of the local orphanages.
ReplyDeleteI find that I know quite a few people that its like the military runs in the blood haha.
ReplyDeleteApril my dear! Thanks for stopping by today! I agree - we are so lucky that there are people out there willing to serve. I really don't think enough people realize just how much they give up when they do. I tear up everytime I see soldiers heading out for deployment. Rips me up every time - especially around the holidays.
ReplyDeleteAs for The Vampire Diaries I haven't read or watched either - I think the same way you do! Though speaking of shows - I read all of Charlaine Harris and tried to watch the show and just couldn't because of how cheesy and terrible I thought it was - I hated the way they changed the plot and in my opinion some of the choices of actresses/actors were dreadful. So I will never watch it I think.
As for Anita Blake - bah I hope you never waste your time on it. If you do - just resign yourself to stop at book 6 - unless of course you find you might be interested to see how crazy it gets - mass animal/human/vampire orgies...seriously no joke. A few times I was about to gag.
