I've started a new feature. Great Design is a way for me to showcase other book bloggers that have put the effort forward to learn how to do great design work. If you would like to be considered for this feature please fill out the form!
The illustrator I used, Tarl from Tarl's Scribbles, is a friend of mine and I've always loved his artwork. I contacted him and asked if he illustrates some characters. We worked out a price and then collaborated together as he came up with ideas. Once he was done, I paid him and he sent me the files so that I could use them on my blog as I see fit.
My husband helped me put the characters in the header with the hills, sky, and clouds. He's a graphic designer. I've actually learned everything I know from him, html, CSS, php, etc.
What do you like most about your design?
I love the fun feeling my design gives to my blog. I also love that each page integrates so well with each other. But, my absolute favorite part of my blog design are the characters Tarl designed. I think they help give my blog personality and showcase my personality better.
What has been the biggest difficulty in getting your design to be how you want it?
I don't know enough php to get some things to work the way I want. I do most of the tweaking on my blog, but sometimes I have to involve my husband because I can't figure something out.
Have you enjoyed learning about design?
I really have. I enjoy learning what looks good together, what makes a blog easy to read or pleasing to the eye, etc. I also love learning how to do it myself so I can be self-sufficient and not have to ask anyone else for help. The timelines are a lot better that way, lol.
One of my favorite designs of Jenni Elyse’s is her blogger hop button.
Thanks for being with us today Jenni!
