  1. The two covers I will be comparing are The Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I love the US cover, the blue and black contrast well to each other, and the mask she is wearing looks really mysterious. The other cover I like is the German cover, I like how it features the girl's face and the wings and the swirls. My favourite would have to be the US cover, I like how the background is black and then the girl's face is pale, almost as if she's in the spotlight. The mask is also beautiful and is screaming intriguing mystery. So the US cover's my favourite. :)

  2. I will compare the two french covers of Magic bite ( in French Morsure Magique)by Ilona Andrews.
The first one( older) is for me the best because we get an idea of Kate and how she could behave and we also have Curran, for me it was perect illustration for the " Kitty Kitty Scene you can see it here:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6163142-morsure-magique
Now, last year they did a new cover but i don't get the same feeling about it at all. They say it's to have more sells ( or they will stop the series) but for me it centered on the city and no Curran this kate isn't to my liking at all ( while i was happy to buy the first edition the second one not at all) you can find it here:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13075072-morsure-magique
Also in comparaison with the Us cover, the french one , the older one, kept the the topic: girl, sword, curran the new one just the girl so we lost the magical illustration of the most funniest scene of the book

  3. Oh yes the bonus^^;; i love the opening of the olympics game but if by event you mean sport, my favorite would be the gymnastic ( so graceful and such courage)

  4. Oops, I went link happy and linked up everything I reviewed in July that qualifies for the overall To Be Read challenge. I actually read a lot of older books and made a dent, as well as newer books (which I didn't link). I'm quite pleased with myself.

As for comparing covers, this is probably the most difficult challenge. With the exception of Dracula and The Book Thief, many of the books I was not able to find international covers for. (It's possible they did not sale well overseas or the rights have not been sold.)

If you want to see all of The Book Thief's international covers link here: http://thebookthiefyalit.blogspot.com/p/covers.html
When you look at the covers you see the best one was actually the original Australian cover as it's the best artistic representation of the book. They're either completely wrong like the US cover or tried to mix the humor with the seriousness of the novel and ended up with a weird cover such as the one from Russia.

I did find a Spanish cover to The House of the Scorpion. I was actually disappointed, because it was too literal and didn't have the imagination that the US covers had.

It'll be interesting to write up in a blog post. I probably won't get to that until the end of the day.

As for Olympics events there are three I always watch. I love watching any swimming event, gymnastics, and soccer. I know you said one, but I can't choose among them, plus soccer has had so much Olympic drama with the North Korea flag scandal and the Colombian punching one of the US girls. The drama from gymnastic and swimming this year is all talent based. Watching soccer this go around is like watching an awesome telenovela. You really have no idea what will happen next.

  5. I'll compare the US and UK covers of Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent. The covers are completely different, and while the UK covers are nice, I don't really like all that white. Plus the US cover is PINK, so US wins. :D

And I don't watch the Olympics...

Since I read Demonglass in July I will be comparing the two covers of it. US: http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1287692542l/8428064.jpg and UK:

Even though I think the UK cover is fun with the shadows of the people turning into witches, demons or whatever the US cover is epic. Turly epic. I have all three books with the US covers in hardback, I almost never buy hardbacks but that's how beautiful they are. I love how there is always a hint about the story in the clothes Sophie is wearing and there is always her reflection in the water. Amazing covers! :)

  7. Great challenge! For the bonus, my favorite sport is Rugby, I'm so from a rugby school. Plus someone from my tiny country school is on Team Canada!!

  8. Oh dear, I'm so behind with the TBR challenge :( I linked up a review which was posted earlier than July but I haven't linked it up yet.

The two covers I'm comparing are the US and UK covers of All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin. Even though the US cover features the chocolate which is a vital part of the story, I still prefer the UK one. If I was in a bookshop, that's the one that'd stand out for me, the one I'd pick up.

Oh and as for the Olympics, rhythmic gymnastics and pole vault are my favourites :)
