I've started a new feature. Great Design is a way for me to showcase other book bloggers that have put the effort forward to learn how to do great design work. If you would like to be considered for this feature please fill out the form!
What resources have you used in your design? Is there any websites you'd recommend for resources?
The website I use the most, since my blog is powered by Blogger, is Blogger's help pages, or I'll just google if my question isn't answered there. Most of the time, people have already answered my question on the help pages, and that's helped me to learn more and more HTML. But I highly recommend knowing what you want to do, otherwise you'll be searching for hours.
Also check other blogs' codes. Don't copy someone's complete code and use it as your own, but if they've done something, see if you can hunt the HTML down in their overall code. If you learn the basics of HTML, then there's a lot of stuff you can do without going to any resources for help.
What do you like most about your design?
My favorite part of my layout is that, besides the font, everything is hand- and/or computer-drawn by me. No one else can have the same layout or any of the same graphics. With my other blogs, most of the time, anyway, I'll use a patterned picture. Like plaid, which I used for my personal blog. Or I'll use brushes on Photoshop and manipulate them. But with Peace, Love, & Books's design, it's all mine.
What has been the biggest difficulty in getting your design to be how you want it?
Oo...that is a good question. Overall, I'd have to say the coding. Sometimes, even though I have a pretty good handle on HTML since I've worked with it so much over the past couple years, Blogger won't allow something to happen. Even if the code's right, it may not work, or it will, but something else will go funky. It can be torture. For example, my main post section (with the red lines surrounding it) was the hardest to code, simply because it was my first time doing it, but also because there's one specific code that can screw it all up.
Have you enjoyed learning about design?
Absolutely! I love making layouts and finally made my own design blog where I make layouts for others because I love learning more and more and seeing what I can do with it next. Sometimes I'll sit for hours trying to make something work. It's the best feeling figuring something out.

Oh, that's a great feature! I've done my design with a program called Artisteer but sometimes I have problems with blogger with it. For example, Blogger absolutely refuse to post widget SHARE on my template. It drives me mad! :) I would love to see what other people come up with on their blogs.
ReplyDeleteYay! :) Thanks so much for featuring me!

ReplyDeleteOh! I'm gonna love this feature. I'm so jealous of designers and their mad skillz! Can't wait to check out their work.
