Midnight Summer Festival Kick-Off with Mega-Giveaway!

There are so many tales of Greek mythology that I adore, but one of my favorites is when a mistaken identity, a shape shifting god, and rope that won’t hold culminated in the creation of dolphins.

Dionysus, god of wine, was considered one of the most handsome of gods, although he was effeminate having been raised as a female to protect him from other gods. Sailors came upon Dionysus disguised as a mortal and thinking him a prince of the land attempted to kidnap him for a ransom. When the rope they were trying to tie him with refused to knot Dionysus transformed into a lion and unleashed a bear already onboard killing everyone they came into contact with. This forced many to jump into the sea where they were mercifully turned into dolphins. The only person that survived in human form was the helmsman who recognized the god at once and tried to stop the kidnap.

My favorite book of mythology is actually a classic. In sixth grade I read Odysseus and I’ve read it repeatedly since. But in the spirit of the resurgence of mythology my favorite recently released is The Goddess Test.
